Mud Fever and Sun Sensitivity

Tell your friends:

Why is Mud Fever linked to Sun Sensitivity?

Mud and Rain works well with sun sensitive horses. The issue with sun is interesting because what happens is that the leafy green grasses like clover contain fluorescing enzymes get into the horse’s bloodstream when they eat them. In pink skinned areas, the sunshine/uv rays penetrate the skin more easily and activate the fluorescing chemicals in the bloodstream causing what is almost like a sunburn from the inside out.

This burning damages the skin, making it more vulnerable for bugs like the mud fever pathogen Dermatophylus congolenses, which is why mud fever is often worse on the white socks of horses.
